AirTrain Newark Replacement Program
Newark, NJ
DMR Construction has been awarded the construction of the Maintenance Control Facility as part of the AirTrain Newark Replacement Program at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Led by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the program will replace the existing AirTrain with a modern automated system designed to improve connectivity and meet growing passenger demand. The Maintenance Control Facility will serve as the operational hub supporting the system’s daily performance and long-term reliability.
Located just north of the existing rail station, the new facility will include a central control complex, maintenance and repair areas, administrative offices, and supporting infrastructure. The building is designed to support both day-to-day operations and ongoing system maintenance.
Key features include three maintenance tracks, overhead cranes, multi-level platforms, a wash bay, and specialized equipment for servicing AirTrain vehicles. The facility will also include an on-site substation, emergency generator, loading areas, and employee parking to ensure efficient, uninterrupted operations.
As the command center for the AirTrain system, the Maintenance Control Facility will play a critical role in monitoring, maintaining, and dispatching vehicles, helping ensure reliable service for millions of airport passengers each year.
DMR’s experience delivering complex infrastructure within active transportation environments positions the team to execute this work with precision while meeting the high standards of public agencies.
This project marks another important step in DMR Construction’s growing transportation portfolio, supporting the development of a modern, resilient transit system at one of the region’s busiest airports.
