Mahwah Station Phase 1 – Critical Repairs

Mahwah, NJ

DMR Construction successfully completed Phase 1 critical repairs at Mahwah Station in Mahwah, delivering essential upgrades while preserving the station’s historic character and maintaining active operations throughout construction.

The project focused on stabilizing and rehabilitating the main station building to prevent further deterioration. Work included comprehensive roof repairs, new sheathing and shingles, upgraded drainage systems, and construction of a new chimney. Additional improvements to the brownstone foundation and site drainage help protect the structure from long-term exposure to the elements.

Targeted electrical upgrades were also completed to support future enhancements, including new underground conduit, communication rough-ins, and platform speaker systems. These improvements were carefully coordinated to align with planned upgrades and minimize disruption.

Site and platform improvements enhanced accessibility and the overall passenger experience. DMR rehabilitated the train platform and constructed new concrete elements, including stairs, sidewalks, and curbs. The project also included an ADA-compliant ramp, updated lighting, signage, bicycle racks, and landscaping.

Given the station’s historic designation, all work was completed with careful attention to original materials and architectural details. Mock-ups were used to ensure restored elements aligned with the existing structure and surrounding historic district.

Completed in October 2025 and accepted by New Jersey Transit, the project reflects DMR Construction’s ability to deliver precise, high-quality improvements within active, historically significant transportation environments.
